Happy Friday! Is everyone ready for the weekend … more importantly Superbowl?
Ok, I am not a huge football fan I am the Watch-The-Superbowl-For-The-Commercials type of person. Oh and the food of course. I mean this burger just screams Superbowl food doesn’t it. And the onion rings on top or just a sweet sweet bonus
So I have completed my month of no meat (Yay Go Me) so it only seems fit to go all out this Sunday. Actually, the things I am looking forward to most is eating a bucket load of chicken wings. They are one of my favourite food items. Speaking of which, did you know that Americans will eat on Superbowl Sunday 1.33 Billion Chicken Wings. Do you know how many chicken wings that is? Me either but it sounds like a lot. And while we are on the subject here are another few food fun facts about the Superbowl
- 104 Million … yes Million pounds of avocado will be consumed. So much Guacamole
- 1.2 Billion dollars will be spent on Beer alone. And yes we will be contributing to that number
- $227 Million dollars on Potato Chips
- 12 Million pounds of bacon. Seriously what is everyone doing with all that bacon. Is it just for burgers or are people just making bacon as an appetizer
- 2.8 Million Pounds of Popcorn which is a ridiculous number seeing as popcorn is literally as light as air
- 8.2 Million pounds of Tortilla chips. This only makes sense seeing as all the guacamole that is being made
Hmmm what is one word that can sum this up. Oh yes, Gluttony. And this is only the second biggest food day falling behind Thanksgiving
And burgers? Well Google is giving me no information on that one but I am guessing its up there. Its a little bit messy but thats just the type of food you need for game day. These burgers are also
- Super Delicious
- Drool Worthy
- Crispy
- Juicy
- Tender
- Flavourful
What is it about burgers that make them so darn good. I can only go for so long without one before I am asking myslf “When is the last time I had a burger. I should get a burger.”
So enjoy your weekend everyone, have a great Superbowl Sunday whether you are watching it for the game, the food, the commercials or the half time show which I am super excited about by the way.
Enjoy!
- [br]Burger Patty:
- 300g Ground Beef (Not Frozen)
- 1 Tbl. Onion, Chopped
- 1 Tbl. Parsley, Chopped
- Salt Pepper
- [br]Toppings:
- Gouda
- Lettuce
- Cherry Peppers
- Sauerkraut
- BBQ Sauce
- Mayo
- Mustard
- [br]Onion Rings:
- 1 Onion, Cut into 1/2 inch circles
- Vegetable Oil
- 1/2 Cup Flour
- 4 Oz. Lager
- 1 Tsp. Salt
- 1 Tsp. Pepper
- 1 Tsp. Paprika
- 1 Tsp. Oregano
- Combine all the ingredients for the burgers and mix slightly with your hand until just incorporated. If you over mix the burgers they will be overly firm. Shape into patties and set aside
- Heat 2 centimetres of vegetable oil in a heavy dutch oven over medium high heat with a deep fry thermometer. You want it to get to 375 degrees
- Meanwhile combine the flour, lager, salt, pepper, paprika and oregano and mix slightly. Again, don’t over mix you want to keep the air bubbles in the batter to keep it light
- Heat a pan or grill pan over medium heat and once hot, add the burgers and sear on each side for 4 minutes then remove from pan. During the last 1 minute of cooking add the cheese
- Meanwhile, one the oil is reaches 375 dip the onion rings in the batter and fry in batches until golden brown. Drain on a plate lined with paper towels and season with salt and pepper
- To assemble the burgers, place mayo on the bottom of each bun (this will stop the bun from getting soggy) and top with the lettuce, burger, BBQ sauce, sauerkraut onion rings and cherry pepper mayo and mustard
- Enjoy with lots of napkins and an Ice Cold Beer
