What a find of a place nestled in the side street of Nha Trang, Vietnam. We are always searching for live music, a good vibe and some great drinks and we found it in Patricks Wine Bar. When you first walk up to the bar it has a very un assuming look. We almost left thinking that the place was empty as when you walk in the building the Wine Bar is separated by a room which was completely empty. There was also a TV outside displaying a live feed of the music and people dancing inside which only added to the confusion when we walked in at first and saw that no one was there. We later found out that the front part is actually a small art gallery.
After our slight confusion we went inside and as soon as we opened the second set of doors we were bombarded with music, laughter, people packed around every corner and wine everywhere. One thing that has been difficult travelling through South East Asia was finding a decent bottle of wine. Apparently Patricks Wine Bar had been hoarding it all with over 450 different types from numerous countries.
After finding a nice bottle of red wine and nestling into a table in the front, we becomes instantly caught up in the voices of the performers. There were two Vietnamese women singing Tina Turners “Rolling on the River” and I swear if I closed my eyes it could have been Tina. All night they were playing everything from Pat Benatar to Joan Jett and everything in between.
The bar can seat over 150 different people and it didn’t take long for a group of travellers to come sit with us and strike up a conversation. Around 30 minutes of being there the Owner, Patrick, was walking around to every table, asking if he could get anything else and just doing a little customer Schmoozing which to me is always a very nice touch.
Overall, between the music, the fantastic wine selection, the owner Patrick and the great atmosphere of the bar, I would highly recommend making a stop here on your way through town. Oh and not to mention you get a free bottle of Champagne for your Birthday which Patrick personally opens up with a large knife for added flair. Now if a wine selection of 450 bottles and free champagne on your birthday is not enough incentive then I don’t know what is. You will just have to go and find out yourself.
